Cedar Key Old Florida Festival of the Arts. Many interesting thoughts, all good. Occasionally an organization puts forth a huge effort knowing the good that can come from a successful show. At this show the organization is the complete town. They left no stone unturned to make it good, artist perks galore, sincere dedicated abundant volunteers, purchase awards to the extreme, good judging. Weather was warm and the crowds were a little off but that gives us something to hope for next year. In my opinion it was still a great show.
Events like this remind us of the need for a thick skin and motivate us to new highs through negative motivation. The positives were we met many nice people, public, admirers of my work and super nice fellow artists. Sculptural art at this show was superb. The negatives were we met a few not so nice people, judging and awards were directed at only contemporary and local art. Weather was a gamut of rain, wind, and sunny at close. I think we will think twice about doing this show again, no maybe three times.
Spring Festival of the Arts was this past weekend. The people we spoke with young & old were great, especially collectors that returned to say hello or pick up another work. Yes, we have to make an income but seeing, talking and knowing that in some small way we have become part of their lives is priceless. Some other aspects of the show were maybe not so great. Next year we may need to consider other shows in that area while the Chamber works out the bugs. Port Orange next weekend, another first time show for us, gotta get ready.
We did Englewood Rotary Fine Art Festival this past past weekend. What a thrill. The Rotary did fantastic, organization, reception, cofee, judging, awards. The art quality at the show was excellent, 2 Judges were from Ringling School of Art in Sarasota, hows that for qualified. Crowds were enthusiastic about the art and we met many really interesting, nice people. To think, it all benefits a good cause makes me wish we could do one just like this every weekend. |
