"Hopes Light" The subject of purpose
Here we are summer 2013. I have not posted on shows, events, and people of spring. The drama of life continues hourly & daily. I have written several blogs only to leave them unposted. It seems that second guessing and not speaking from the heart has dominated my thoughts, still before the launch or landslide of another season is upon us I have no choice but to exclaim to the person or people that the art touched, spoke to, or inspired, I think of you daily. Our conversations and shaired thoughts are an experience and inspiration that I never could have imagined.
Finally all acceptance letters have arrived. The shows will be added to the "Shows" page and work on our new sculpture works continues slowly through to the end of summer. There was lots of sweat, much frustration, and just a little blood given for them. At this point I am satisfied, the finish has to be strong. Work on 2D has to become more focused and dedicated. The story goes... Summer Journey
Phew! Wow! Ouch! Very little to do with art. Three shows otherwise the art bag stayed packed. Other than visiting with family this more than a month trip was a brutal lesson on there are only 24 hours in a day, 7 days in a week, 52 weeks in a year, and time in a lifetime unknown, so spend it wisely. The attempt to repair and renovate an old family homestead in the mountains of West Virginia was frustrating. I can't wait til next year. Thank you a thousand times to the many collectors, artists, and public that we met, enjoyed at these three shows. I will do my best to accomplish all requests with new bodies of work. Cocoa this past weekend, nice. I have a ton of work to get done as summer is bearing down. Whalehead on deck.
Beautiful show setting, convenient location, and a well organized show staff set the stage for a good weekend. What made it a great weekend was the friendliness of show staff, the best artist neighbors & friends to do a show with, and public reception to the work. Of course very good judging and sales did not hurt either. In short one of those shows to fondly remember because you know there will be events that will test your commitment to the core.
Cedar Key Old Florida Festival of the Arts. Many interesting thoughts, all good. Occasionally an organization puts forth a huge effort knowing the good that can come from a successful show. At this show the organization is the complete town. They left no stone unturned to make it good, artist perks galore, sincere dedicated abundant volunteers, purchase awards to the extreme, good judging. Weather was warm and the crowds were a little off but that gives us something to hope for next year. In my opinion it was still a great show.
Events like this remind us of the need for a thick skin and motivate us to new highs through negative motivation. The positives were we met many nice people, public, admirers of my work and super nice fellow artists. Sculptural art at this show was superb. The negatives were we met a few not so nice people, judging and awards were directed at only contemporary and local art. Weather was a gamut of rain, wind, and sunny at close. I think we will think twice about doing this show again, no maybe three times.
Spring Festival of the Arts was this past weekend. The people we spoke with young & old were great, especially collectors that returned to say hello or pick up another work. Yes, we have to make an income but seeing, talking and knowing that in some small way we have become part of their lives is priceless. Some other aspects of the show were maybe not so great. Next year we may need to consider other shows in that area while the Chamber works out the bugs. Port Orange next weekend, another first time show for us, gotta get ready.
We did Englewood Rotary Fine Art Festival this past past weekend. What a thrill. The Rotary did fantastic, organization, reception, cofee, judging, awards. The art quality at the show was excellent, 2 Judges were from Ringling School of Art in Sarasota, hows that for qualified. Crowds were enthusiastic about the art and we met many really interesting, nice people. To think, it all benefits a good cause makes me wish we could do one just like this every weekend. |
